A reader sent in the following and asked that their last name not be used so I am posting it under my name. I think this plainly paints a picture of why life insurance underwriters are cautious with bipolar.

"My husband was undiagnosed for what I think was hypomania that got worse. The course of the illness was worsened by Serotax withdrawel and Xanax side-effects.He did not feel well and cried for help and had a general check-up done.An acute manic episode was triggered with psychosis confusion of time and place and in a panic attack on a phone call ,he jumped from the 5th floor ,while his two underaged children were at home.He also had a delusion about loosing his job for mistakes he never made ,as his work was perfect. He was some months away from pension.Don't publish the last name. Thanks C.
